Now to act with integrity, according to that strength of mind and body with which our creator hath endowed each of us, appears necessary for all."
~ John Woolman
Some Particular Concerns & Opportunities
The fact that we are all part of the climate problem makes us, potentially, all part of the climate solution--each in our particular way. But we can't take on the whole vast crisis in one action. We have to pull it apart into its many aspects, seeing solutions in each of the component parts of the system, at different levels. The resources under this topic show us what that looks like in practice, who's doing what, and what this approach promises for our lives, our work, and the planet we share.
There are SO MANY ways that we, as individual Friends, Meetings, or ordinary citizens, can engage with climate action. What is nearest to your heart, and where might you find a platform for influencing change?  Here are just a few component parts of the climate movement: seeking eco-justice; healing nature; changing public policy, strengthening our democracy; supporting "inner work"; moving your money; promoting new technologies or transformative processes; organizing civic education and "climate empowerment; aiding youth in coping with and growing into climate leadership; creating local and regional climate resilient hubs; and collaboration; advancing state, national or global agendas; and reaching out with aid for climate refugees or victims of disaster, drought and famine.
Queries
How might we give witness to our concerns such that we become the Quakers the movement has been waiting for?

Of the many aspects of the planetary crisis that are of concern, and the many opportunities and solutions now emerging, what are those that most draw you? What is there in you, in your history, circumstances, passions, experiences and talents, etc. that makes you particularly connect to these issues and opportunities?

What is already present in our hearts and lives right now, and how might Spirit be moving us to act? How do you see your particular role or opportunities?

What small steps can you take (or are you taking)? What would help you?
How might you collaborate? How can you find others to also work with?
Cornerstones of Action

use today's URGENT actions to set tomorrow's transformative Possibilities

Picture
The blue "cornerstones" to the left represent the four near term outcomes that we must achieve as soon as possible if we and "all our relations"-- all of life on earth--are to survive.  [They are the foundational core of the larger compass on this site.) We must first stop the harm we continue to inflict on our Earth; we must save one another as climate chaos wreaks havoc across the globe; we must change our over-consumptive, fossil fuel-intensive lifestyles; and finally, we must heal the planet with rewilding and regenerative solutions such as those put forth by Project Regeneration (link below). Most of our concerns and climate actions fall into one or more of these categories. These are the cornerstones of a livable future, for what we might yet achieve over time, allowing us and all of Creation.

stop the harm

Picture
What forces are now emerging that are strong enough, if brought together, to at last stop the exploitation of Earth and the destruction of life and bring into full force all the ways now emerging by which we can in fact meet the material needs of all without harm to planet or to people? Forces opposing needed changes are powerful indeed, but in the end, not nearly as much as nature aroused, nor the younger generations now massing to take back their futures!

DEPAVE TO HEAL the planet

Picture
All over the world we are beginning to see efforts to re-wild urban areas, freeing the soil (as with the "depaving" photo above), restore healthy soils, regenerate forests and shorelines, rescue coral reefs, restore rivers, return animals, or migrate trees and eco-systems to climate-safer areas. Astounding successes are occurring where humans, recognizing their right relationship with Creation, are helping to restore nature. The double image below left is of a desert returned to life by human effort.

save each other

Picture
Resilient communities all over the world are working together, person to person, coming to know each other directly and coming to care about and trust each other. When the hard times hit, and they will, pretty much everywhere, often and repeatedly, we must be able to turn to one another.  In the midst of the challenges, we discover our collective strengths--courage and ingenuity, loyalty and honor.  Saving each other helps us save ourselves.
