befriending truth
We as Quakers have historically called ourselves the Religious Society of the Friends of Truth. Now, in these times, we must again step up boldly to act upon that calling. But as we do that—as we seek to discern truth in these troubled times, we must continually listen, within and among ourselves, and reaching into the natural world, for that “still small voice” that, even in the heat and intensity of a global crisis, allows us to discern rightly.
What does it mean for us to “answer that of God in everyone?”And what does it mean to...
"Sing and rejoice ye children of the day and the light; for the Lord is at work in this thick night of darkness that may be felt: and the Truth doth flourish as the rose, and lilies do grow among the thorns and the plants atop the hills, and upon them the lambs doth skip and play." ~ George Fox, The Journal of George
This part of the website exists as a place for us to come together and share, in Quaker fashion, the thoughts and the stories and actions that can help us help each other to find our way. We have included a few offerings below. If you have one that you are led to share here, we invite you to use the contact form at the bottom of the page.
As a starting point, we note that among the many forms of “truth”, some forms especially valuable in these times, and for us as Quakers, are these:
- Heart truths and spiritual truths
- Truths expressed in poetry and song, art and ritual
- Truth as the evolving scientific understandings of how our world works
- Truth as borne from our own experience
- Truths from shared experience
