Starting conversations to connect people, sectors, and campaigns; developing the needed attitudes and skills, focusing the "power of the people" on the best solutions to get us out of the mess and headed into a livable future.
Quakers are "called to be patterns and examples in a 21st century campaign for peace and ecojustice, as difficult and decisive as the 18th and 19th century drive to abolish slavery."
– The Kabarak Call for Peace and Ecojustice, 2012
The Climate Movement continues to expand and evolve in every country across the globe. By some estimates there are now hundreds of thousands of faith-based and other non-profit organizations, large and small, in every country in the world, seeking to drive collective and sustainable action to mitigate the climate crisis. You can help grow the climate movement by actively engaging with an organization advocating for science-based climate policies and climate change solutions, and addressing concerns of climate breakdown, economic and climate justice, human rights and depletion of natural resources.

In addition to advocating for climate initiatives advanced by FCNL and other Quaker organizations, Friends have almost endless opportunities to partner with other groups who are involved in the climate justice movement if so led. Some of these organizations exist entirely to create connections and partnerships between various climate organizations and climate justice advocacy groups (see The Climate Action Network). Others have the mission of training and preparing climate activists to take the most effective actions or leadership roles in the movement (see Pachamama or The Climate Reality Project).

As Friends, we know the power of peaceful protest and social activism. And when our voices, intentions and actions are united with millions of others around the world, we create a movement that is inclusive, impactful, and impossible to ignore. Whether you are only able to add your name to a petition (see Earthday.org) or you are looking to get yourself or your Meeting involved in a particular environmental concern, you will find resources to help you, below.

Geographic Map

This map shows the general location of climate organizations around the San Francisco Bay Area. Some of these organizations do not have actual offices, therefore a reference point is used for the map pin. Check an organization’s website for the most up to date location, contact information and other details.
Location markers are color-coded by organization type. Click the slider icon to the left of the map’s title to see the full list of color-codes.
  • IMPORTANT: Help us update these listings using the Add/Update Listings form.
  • CLUSTERING: Because listings only go to the City level, several markers may be overlapping and therefore not visible (e.g. there are many in San Francisco that are not shown). Use the slider icon to display the layers, then select or unselect layers to focus in on specific categories.

Do you have a favorite climate organization not mentioned here? Please share the URL and we will review and link to it on this page.
