"As members of this beautiful human family, we seek meaningful commitments from our leaders and ourselves, to address climate change for our shared future, the Earth and all species, and the generations to come. We see this Earth as a stunning gift that supports life. It is our only home. Let us care for it together."
~ Shared Quaker Statement on Climate Change, developed by QEW, QUNO, and FCNL for their joint presence at events during the UN Climate Summit, 2014.
Given what we know about the threats that climate change poses to our beautiful Earth and all of its lifeforms, we must take swift action to stop the harm caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. As a global community we must level off—and ultimately decrease—carbon emissions. The faster we do this, the less harm we will cause to our planet and all of its flora and fauna, including humans. We all know this. The obvious question for Friends is, 'How?'
This section of the Unity with Nature website brings together materials, tools, organizations, campaigns, and contacts that offer immediate opportunities for the most meaningful action. We have identified actions that will effect pivotal choices being made right now, at different levels of scale, from the individual household to the global community. We characterize opportunities for Friends to take meaningful action, while suggesting patterns and larger themes that may help our reflections as we discern individually and as Meetings where we can and should focus our energy to have the greatest impact on the climate crisis.
